The Alfa Romeo 4C dazzled us with promises of Italian curves, midship power, and ultra light weight when it debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Now, Alfa has released a teaser image of what we believe is a revised 4C concept set to make its first appearance at the Frankfurt show next month. Although the car’s front end is obscured by extreme shadow, it doesn’t appear much different from the original. Nevertheless, this solitary photo is enough to get us excited over Alfa’s baby 8C all over again.
The Italian marque’s diminutive sports car is expected to get the turbocharged, direct-injected 1.7-liter I-4 out of the hot hatch version of the Giulietta, the Quadrifoglio Verde. Making 235 hp in the front-drive Giulietta, that engine’s certainly not a bad choice for the mid-engined 4C. Although perhaps not as much power as you’d expect from an Italian sports car, the 4C will make it count with its lightweight construction. Reportedly using generous amounts of aluminum in the front and rear sub-frames, as well as a carbon-fiber monocoque body, the 4C is said to weigh in at around 1784 lbs. That could allow for a sub-five second zero-to-60 time.
Similar to the many versions of the Toyota FT-86 concept we’ve seen, this next incarnation of the 4C could have only mild cosmetic changes in store. But without anything more to go on other than this one picture, it’s hard to draw any conclusions.
