A teaser video from Infiniti told us that Red Bull Racing Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel was helping style a new concept vehicle for the Frankfurt Motor Show. Infiniti today released the first real photo of the modified “performance concept,” which is based off the 2012 FX Crossover.
Changes applied to the car apparently consist of carbon-fiber mirrors, new wheels, a large rear wing, a new front lip, new side skirts, and a tweaked front fascia with LED running lights. There’s also, of course, a chrome Vettel badge on the crossover’s front fender.
An earlier teaser video also promised a matte-gray interior and a steering wheel that was less “normal.” That may mean the Infiniti’s wheel will score an array of buttons and flashing lights like the expensive steering wheels in Formula 1 cars.
There’s still no word as to whether this modified Infiniti is a prelude to a new production model, or whether there are any performance upgrades in store for the car. We’ll find out more on September 13 in Frankfurt.

Want to order a manual transmission on a new Acura TSX? For 2012, to do so requires springing for the 2012 TSX Special Edition model shown here.
Allegedly inspired by “fun-to-drive four-cylinder Acuras of the past,” the new 2012 Special Edition includes a few cosmetic touches that set it apart from the remainder of the TSX lineup. Outside, Special Edition models receive a new front spoiler, a bespoke rear bumper fascia, new side sill trim, and unique badging. The twisted-spoke 17-inch aluminum wheels used are similar to those available on other TSX trims, but SE cars receive gray painted accents. Inside, Special Edition cars boast unique seating surfaces, which incorporate perforated suede inserts paired with bright red backing. A matching red hue is used for contrast stitching on the seats, steering wheel, and shift knob, and for footwell, gauge, and mood lighting.
Given the inspiration for the Special Edition, we’re not shocked to hear the model is offered only with the TSX’s 201-hp, 2.4-liter DOHC I-4. We are, however, a little surprised to hear that availability of the 6-speed manual transmission – previously a no-cost option on all four-cylinder TSX sedans – will be restricted to the SE. That said, Acura officials don’t anticipate relegating the stick to the sport-inspired Special Edition will impact volumes of the manual-equipped TSX. For those who don’t enjoy rowing their own gears, a 5-speed automatic remains available on all 2012 TSX models, including the Special Edition.
Acura isn’t releasing specifics on pricing just yet, but we’re told the entire package should start just under $31,000. Buyers interested in adding navigation to the mix should note Acura’s Technology Package — which includes navigation — is not available on the Special Edition. Presently, there’s no word on if the Special Edition package – or the manual transmission option itself – will carry on beyond the 2012 model year. If you’re interested in picking one up while you can, head to your dealer shortly; cars should be arriving in showrooms by the end of September.

With the Frankfurt Motor Show only mere weeks away, Audi is getting ready to show off its Urban Concept Sportback and Spyder concepts in the metal. Until then, we will have to make do with the slew of photos the automaker has released of the two electric concepts.
As we’ve already reported, the Urban Concept will come in two almost-identical Sportback and Spyder flavors – the primary difference being the missing roof on the Spyder variant. Both of the concepts wear aggressive, wedge-shaped bodywork and thin LED lights. Audi’s corporate grille dominates the front end of both cars, and an R8-eque red sideblade and center crease grace the profile. Both cars end with a boat-tail rear end that includes a thinstrip of LEDs for taillights.
Audi has, however, released a few technical specifications for the cars. Weight is kept below 1100 pounds, thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber-reinforced polymers and a minimalist interior. Power will come from a variant of Audi’s e-tronsystem, with two electric motors drawing juice from a lithium-ion battery pack. Audi says that both cars will “accelerate powerfully,” with a 0-38 mph time of 6.5 seconds, a top speed of 62 mph, and a range of 30-40 miles.
Expect full details to emerge as we draw closer to the Urban Concept Sportback and Syder’s premieres next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

It hasn’t even been two weeks since we spied the nip-tucked 2013 Genesis Coupe, and while it remained shy and kept its more important parts covered-up for our spy photographer, a Gen Coupe forum member got up-close and personal with what could be the future model.
Spotted in the buff in what seems to be a Korean parking garage, the facelifted coupe looks to be all smiles, and we can’t understand why. It seems to have lost a bit of its identity, and taken on characteristics similar to Hyundai’s down-market models.
While the Genesis coupe is supposed to be part of Hyundai’s upscale and more unique models, it seems as though it was styled to look more like the Elantra and Accent compacts. The grille is considerably wider than the current Genesis coupe, and like we predicted in our spy shots, the LED light pipes from the refreshed 2012 Genesis sedan underline the headlights. It also seems to have taken on a more bubbly shape in the front, and its taller hood sports air vents, which we hope will allow for a beefier engine, such as the direct-injected 5.0-liter V-8 out of the Genesis R-Spec sedan, to breathe.
But that might idea may just be wishful thinking. The turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 is expected to carryover, possibly with direct-injection, with the 3.8-liter V-6 getting the same GDI treatment as on the new Genesis sedan, raising output from 306 hp to 333 hp.
The biggest change to the rear appears to be the taillights, in which the LEDs form a different shape compared to the current model’s lights. Most other details appear to be carryover from the current model.
Whether or not this is the 2013 Genesis Coupe, it is expected to officially bare all when it makes its debut at the 2012 Detroit show in January.

Mercedes-Benz already spilled most of the details regarding its C63 AMG Coupe Black Series last month. The German automaker mentioned an available Aerodynamics package for the Black Series in the car’s initial press release, but these shots from our spy photographer are the first we’ve seen of those additional aero bits. Making the car look even more track-capable than the already racy Black Series C-coupe, this package looks like it shifts the C63’s gentle balance between street car and DTM racer.
In the front, we can see the aero package places canards along the sides of the front valance. Mercedes says these canards, or “winglets,” as the manufacturer calls them, help to increase downforce and aerodynamic balance. Whether functional or not, this addition, combined with the existing front splitter, really completes the DTM look of the front end. In back, the deck lid receives a fixed rear wing, which Mercedes says features an adjustable aerofoil. If the Black Series didn’t look boy-racerish before, the new rear spoiler certainly does the trick. Not that we’re complaining.
Beneath the rear bumper, the diffuser remains unaltered from the standard Black Series. However, this car could also be testing AMG’s Track package, meaning there could be a cooling system for the rear differential hiding underneath all that delicious carbon fiber. Even if it’s mostly for show, the new package has gotten us all hot and bothered for the upcoming muscle Benz.

follows the earlier release of D-MAX Pearler and D-MAX LE II limited edition models, which marked one and two year milestones respectively for the specialist ute distributor.
Two days ago, we posted on the new seventh-generation Toyota Camry that made its debut in USA. However, we all know that there are various versions of Toyota’s popular D-segment sedan, and what we may be getting is likely to different from the North American car.
Now, here are some official shots of another version of the new Camry, released by Toyota Ukraine. We can see that the front and rear design of this car is totally different from the US version. This set of pics reveal a Camry with a “baby Lexus LS” front end, which features a grille with more slats and more chrome, which is what buyers from our region (plus China and Russia) generally prefer.
And while the side profile is similar to what we’ve seen from the US, the rear end is once again completely different. While the US car has those distinctive “boomerang” lamp clusters, this one is more “full” in shape, and both sides are connected with a fat chrome strip. Even the rims look familiar.
Inside, there’s lots of wood with glossy finish and metallic accents. They go on to a dark grey cabin, and the overall look is quite classy in a traditional way. We have a feeling that this Camry we see here will be the one ASEAN is getting.

These are the first official pictures of the all-new diesel Mercedes SLK Roadster. Available for the first time as an oil-burner, the new SLK 250 CDI gets a 2.2-litre, 204bhp four-cylinder engine with a healthy 500Nm of torque - making it the most powerful diesel in its class.
Official performance figures of 0-62mph in 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 150mph are impressive, as is fuel consumption of 57mpg with CO2 emissions of 128g/km. The SLK also features stop-start as standard.
Externally the SLK is the same as the petrol variants, and retains the twin-exhaust system. The model is available with a ‘Magic sky control’ vario-roof, which allows the glass to be changed from dark to transparent at the touch of a button.
Fitted with the standard 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission as standard, while a six-speed manual will follow in the second quarter of 2012. There are also three suspension versions available: a conventional steel set up, a sports suspension with stiffer springs and dampers or a suspension with an electronically controlled, fully automatic damping system.
The Mercedes SLK 250 CDI goes on sale in September and although prices haven't been confirmed yet, buyers should expect to pay around £37,000. For more details click here.

Following the unveiling of its all-new Lexus GS at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California, the firm has released teaser images of the 2012 GS F Sport and 450h.
Debuting at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the 450h will be mostly unchanged from the current model, meaning around 300bhp from a combination of a 3.5-litre V6 engine and electric motor. There doesn't appear to be any major styling changes from the standard car that appeared at Pebble Beach, but the model will be distinguished by revised logos with blue accents, detailed in the grille badge.
Aiming for a sportier stance, the F Sport has a new front fascia, which is clearly visible in the teaser. It’s likely that 19-inch alloys will feature alongside a honeycomb grille in an attempt to rival sporty trim levels from its rivals – such as M Sport from BMW and S line from Audi.
On the inside, both cars will use the 12.3-inch split-screen monitor that controls all the car's functions, with a mouse-like joystick navigating the menus. No pricing details have been released, but expect a small premium over the current model, which starts at £45,000. For more details click here.

We have already gotten a good look at the 2012 Mercedes-Benz B-Class thanks to a number of spy shots of the car and a handful of leaked photos in the past months. Now, Mercedes has dropped the full-monty on the B and its new look, powertrains, and platform before its Frankfurt Motor Show debut.
As has long been reported, the B-Class it is the first production model to use the automaker’s new MFA (Mercedes Front Architecture) front-wheel drive platform. The MFA replaces the previous sandwich-floor platform that the current A- and B-Class hatchbacks use, and is a modular architecture that can be enlarged, adapted for all-wheel-drive, and compatible with many different body styles and powertrain options. Other vehicles to come from the MFA are the next A-Class (previewed by the Concept A-Class shown earlier this year at the New York auto show), a small crossover to do battle with the BMW X1 and Audi Q3, and a CLS-inspired four-door coupe.
Aesthetically, the 2012 B-Class blends cues cribbed from the Concept A-Class and the previous B-Class. It maintains an upright greenhouse and short nose, along with large headlights and a prominent grille. Around back, the flat hatch bears similar taillights to the outgoing model, although they are LED-powered and a little more artistic than before. Inside, the cabin sports large, circular air vents, a infotainment screen placed high in the dash, and horizontal, flowing lines to convey a feeling of openness and luxury.
The 2012 B-Class will be available for the first time with Mercedes’ seven-speed automatic transmission, though an all-new six-speed manual will also be offered. Either of the transmissions can be mated to the buyer’s choice of gasoline and diesel inline-four-cylinder offerings. Gas-powered offerings include two forms of the direct-injection 1.6-liter I-4, and are rated at 122 hp and 156 hp. Diesel options include two variants of Mercedes’ 1.8-liter common-rail diesel, rated at 109 and 136 hp, respectively.
As promised, the B-Class is packed full of advanced features typically found in larger vehicles. Standard equipment includes a radar-based collision avoidance system; Attention Assist which detects a drowsy driver; and Benz’s Pre-Safe system, which closes windows, tightens belts, and adjusts front seats to prepare occupants for a collision. Two versions of the Comand infotainment system will be offered, both of which are available with Internet connectivity. According to Mercedes, passengers will be able to surf while parked or use voice commands to search Google and Google Maps while in motion..
The 2012 B-Class will make its debut next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show and will go on sale in Europe this coming November. Whether or not the car will come to the U.S. remains to be seen, but rest assured several variants of the MFA platform are heading our way.

After surviving 24 hours of racing around Germany’s famed NĂĽrburgring, the 2012 Aston Martin V12 Zagato is now ready to roll into private driveways all over the world. Though Aston had previously talked about offering a street-legal version of its Zagato-bodied racer, the company announced today it will show such a vehicle at 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Mechanically, the new car is essentially identical to the existing V12 Vantage, but the big news lies with the skin itself. Zagato has both penned and crafted a taut, lithe body from both carbon fiber and aluminum, helping the Vantage shed some weight yet gain some sex appeal. Aston’s 510-hp, 6.0-liter V-12 continues to provide power, which will likely continue to be channeled to the rear wheels via a six-speed automated manual transaxle.
Aston has long promised production of the Zagato will be “strictly limited,” but that seems to extend even to the prototypes. Two cars — nicknamed Zig and Zag — were raced at the 24 Hours of NĂĽrburgring enduro earlier this year, but the company has converted Zag back into road-going form for its Frankfurt show display. Aston says the car is “indicative” of the finished product, which is previewed with these new renderings. From what we can tell, the street-legal machine looks almost identical to the racer, apart from the hood (two fewer scoops), side windows (now fully functional), and front diffuser.
According the company, only 150 examples of the V12 Zagato will be built. Buyers have their choice of four colors, but not body styles — each and every example will be a hardtop coupe. Want one? Aston’s taking orders on a first-come, first-served basis, and pricing is expected to start between $525,000-540,000.

Among the recent whirlwind of mid-size sedan updates—including the 2012 Toyota Camry and the forthcoming 2013 Chevrolet Malibu—you might have forgotten about one of the group’s elders, the Nissan Altima. Right on cue, then, arrives this heavily camo’d prototype of the next-generation model, which should go on sale for the 2013 model year.
It’s hard to determine much about sheetmetal from these pictures, but some details do reveal themselves. The Altima’s new front end looks like a less-ugly version of the 2012 Nissan Versa's, while the rear shows a hunchback trunklid like that of the current Maxima. The taillights should offer a slightly different take on the splat-shaped pods of models like the Juke and the 370Z. It also seems like the Altima might end up being the closest thing to a fastback that the segment offers, with a C-pillar that stretches far beyond the rear wheels. We’ve been promised big surprises for this next Altima, and it’s easy to picture the 2010 Nissan Ellure Concept influencing whatever’s hiding under the camo. It’s certainly worth noting that this Altima will be all-new, and won’t be an update of the current platform.
At the same time, we know that the car’s powertrain basics won’t change dramatically. A continuously variable automatic transmission will return, and the Altima also will stick to a base-four-cylinder, optional-V-6 strategy. Some rumors suggest a 2.0-liter turbo will emerge as the step-up option, but we have reliable sources that say that’s not the case. Expect the powertrains to benefit from new fuel-saving technologies to keep the Altima up with the efficiency Joneses, which seem to be moving to the mid-30s for highway numbers. With Hyundai, Kia, Chevrolet, and Toyota all showing their hands recently, Nissan has very clear targets to aim for over the next year or so.

The new Mercedes A-Class AMG is taking shape. These are the latest spy shots of the new flagship, caught testing under heavy camouflage in Germany. The prototype – likely to be dubbed the A25 AMG – is being benchmarked against the Volkswagen Golf R, with performance taking a serious priority.
Looking very similar to previous A-Class prototypes testing in Germany, the AMG variant is distinguished by bigger air intakes at the front, high-performance brakes, huge AMG alloy wheels and a sporty dual exhaust system.
While the concept A-Class was in sleek three-door form, our spy shots clearly show a more practical five-door version, suggesting that both bodystyles will be offered. The aggressive front end features headlights that feature LED running lights, and a deep front grille. In profile, a truncated rear, long bonnet and roof spoiler give it a dynamic stance and a look reminiscent of its biggest rival, the BMW 1-Series.
In standard trim, the new A-Class will sport a turbocharged and direct injected 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine with about 154bhp on tap, and an efficient 1.8-litre diesel available in two different states of tune. The AMG variant is expected to feature a highly tuned 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol that should develop around 350bhp to be a true BMW 1-Series M Coupe and Audi RS3 rival.
With the standard A-Class likely to make its world debut at next months Frankfurt Motor Show, expect the AMG variant to follow early next year. For more details click here.

The hybrid Audi A8 saloo has been revealed ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The A8 Hybrid employs a four-cylinder 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine with a powerful lithium-ion battery. Fitted for the first time in an Audi model at this level, the A8 produces 207bhp and 350 NM of torque from the petrol motor.
Along with the 40kw battery, total output on the hybrid A8 comes in at 241bhp with 427Nm of torque, which is delivered to the front wheels through a fast-shifting hybrid transmission.
Three drive modes are available: ‘EV’ gives priority to electric power, ‘D-mode’ is a combination of electric and petrol powered driving, while ‘S’ provides a livelier combination of both powertrains for increased performance.
It's exactly the same drivetrain used the Audi A6 Hybrid concept we drove this month.
The Audi A8 hybrid can drive at up to 62mph purely on electric power, and is capable of reaching 62mph in 7.7 seconds with CO2 emissions of 148g/km. Combined fuel economy is in excess of 44mpg, so still someway behind the firm's diesel offerings.
Visually, the hybrid A8 is almost identical to the standard car, with only subtle details such as its 18-inch or optional 19-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels, small hybrid badges and an exclusive Arctic Silver paint finish setting it apart.
Given the green light for series production beginning in 2012, and reaching the UK late next year, the A8 is one of the lightest saloons in its category thanks to its lightweight aluminium space frame chassis, but the added cost of the batteries and extra fuel-saving technology is likely to make it one of the more expensive models in the line-up. Now that the next-gen Porsche 911’s design has been officially revealed in photos, variants of the 991 are all we have to look forward to in our spy shots inbox. We’ve seen the 911 in Turbo trim on numerous occasions, and we’ve also seen a 911 with a droptop before. But we haven’t seen those two qualities together on one car yet. Enter the 911 Turbo Cabriolet, which our spy photographer has captured testing on the streets of Germany.
Like the other genuine Turbos we’ve spotted, this car features a real set of intake strakes on the rear fenders. This car also wears the fixed rear wing and some of the other bodywork of the possible Turbo S model we spotted last month. As we’ve seen in previous spy shots and even in the photos released by Porsche, the dimensions don’t appear much different from the current model. However, we know from our in-depth first drive of the 991 prototype that the car adds nearly four inches to the wheelbase and two inches in overall length.
Though we got juicy details earlier this week on the 911 Carrera and Carrera S, which will get 3.4-liter and 3.8-liter engines, respectively, not many hard facts have surfaced about the 911 Turbo’s drivetrain. Since the Carrera S model keeps its 3.8-liter displacement from the previous model, we might see that engine with forced induction and other tweaks in the next Turbo model. All-wheel drive is also expected to return, likely a necessity when transmitting its anticipated 550-plus horsepower to the ground.
Even after showing us what the next-gen 911 will look like, Porsche still manages to keep our attention with prototypes like this. Hopefully, come September, when the 991 is unveiled at Frankfurt, we’ll know a little more about the next 911 Turbo.

The all-new, seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf will have more rakish looks than the current model when it goes on sale in a year’s time.
Volkswagen’s plan to subtly alter the proportions of its bread-and-butter hatchback includes giving it a wider footprint, a lower roofline and a lower driving position, which should improve the driving environment.
In addition, the Mk7 Golf will get a more steeply raked windscreen to further move its design in a new direction.
The subtle rethink is intended to create a greater distinction between the three-door, five-door and high-roofed Golf Plus models. The next Golf Plus will be more clearly positioned as a spacious five-seat mini-MPV.
Volkswagen’s intention is to make the three-door Golf Mk7 look even sportier than the five-door, although it won’t be as extreme as the new Vauxhall Astra GTC.
Inside, the Golf will get an all-new instrument panel and a centre console that is angled towards the driver.
There’s also a new active steering system on the way, called ‘mechanical active’.

Subaru has confirmed that a 'technology concept' of its 2+2 coupe – co-developed with the Toyota FT-86 – will debut at Frankfurt. And the firm has revealed that the production car will be called BRZ.
The letters BRZ stand for Boxer engine, Rear-wheel drive and Zenith - which confirms serveral facts. Firstly that, just like the Toyota FT-86, it will be rear-wheel drive not four-wheel drive and secondly it will feature a Boxer engine under the bonnet.
There are no precise engine details at the moment, but it's expected to use the same 200bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder powerplant as the Toyota FT-86, which shoud mean a 0-62mph time of around seven seconds and a top speed of 140mph. Higher performance versions are expected further down the line.
The technology concept in Frankfurt will be called the Subaru BRZ Prologue - Boxer Sports Car Architecture II. The II refers to the fact that a wire frame model and the image shown here were already revealed at the Geneva show earlier this year.
Subaru claims production is sheduled to begin in Spring 2012, just a few months after its Toyota stablemate is slated to hit showrooms. For more details click here.

This is the Ferrari 458 Spider, a convertible version of the 458 Italia coupe with a folding aluminum hardtop. The Ferrari 458 Spider is mechanically identical to the Italia coupe, although its occupants will need to bring along more sunscreen.
As is the case with its closed-top sibling, the 458 Spider is powered by a 4.5-liter V-8 with 570 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. Power is transmitted through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to the rear wheels. Ferrari says the 458 Spider can hit 62 mph in less than 3.5 seconds, and attain a top speed of over 198 mph.
The roof is made from aluminum and the overall setup reportedly weighs 55 pounds less than a comparable fabric top. It folds into a space in front of the engine in just 14 seconds (check out the video below to see the roof in action). The roof doesn’t actually fold, instead rotating into the decklid just like the convertible roof on the old Ferrari 575M Superamerica.
The 458’s basic shape isn’t really compromised by removing its top, as the car’s profile, nose, and tail are all pretty much identical to that of the Italia. With the top down, however, the Spider has two sloped buttresses that extend from the top of the headrests to the rear spoiler.
Redesigned air intakes above the engine bay help route cool air to the intakes and oil coolers. A shelf behind the front seats provides a small amount of luggage space. An electrically operated wind blocker is said to keep the cabin so quiet and so turbulence-free that “normal conversation” is possible at speeds of up to 124 mph with the roof down, according to Ferrari.
Removing the 458’s roof apparently won’t compromise its driving dynamics. Ferrari says the convertible is just as structurally rigid as the coupe. At 3153 pounds, the 458 Spider is only 111 pounds heavier than its Italia sibling. The company has even retuned the 458 Spider’s exhaust note to ensure “absolute driving pleasure with the top down.”
Ferrari hasn’t revealed when the 458 Spider goes on sale or how much it will cost. Look for it to make its public debut at an upcoming European auto show — most likely next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

Don’t you just love it when car companies and fashion houses team up to create special edition cars? Not to be outdone by the Fiat 500’s Gucci special edition, Maserati has teamed up with Italian fashion house Fendi to create the GranCabrio Fendi, set to debut at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
This special edition GranCabrio is being marketed as some-sort of bespoke, made in Italy, fashion piece, when in all reality, it’s just a run-of-the-mill (if you can call it that) GranCabrio with some special bits grafted on. The GranCabrio Fendi gets a unique paint job, dubbed “Grigio Fiamma Fendi,” which Maserati says is, “A special dark grey with an iridescent golden finish on the surface.” The GranCabrio Fendi also gets Fendi’s “F” Logo on its 20-inch wheels, and along the rocker panel.
Inside the GranCabrio Fendi gets a unique wood trim and embroidery in “Fendi Yellow.” Perhaps the most distinctive feature of the GranCabrio Fendi’s interior is its unique leather. Taken from Fendi’s “Selleria” line, the brown leather is distinctive for its maze-like design. The unique leather continues throughout the cabin, and onto the included luggage set. Rounding out the cabin is a silver oval plaque engraved with Maserati’s Trident and Fendi’s F, and a five-digit series number
Performance from the Ferrari-derived 4.7-liter V-8 remains unchanged.

Though it’s not always the top pick with car nuts, the Camry is a seriously important car for Toyota. Over 15 million copies of the Camry have been sold worldwide since 1983, of which 9.7 million were sold in America. It should come as no surprise, then, that Toyota pulled out all the stops for a live webcast to unveil the 2012 Toyota Camry: dancers, streamers, confetti, and even an appearance from Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda.
The new 2012 Camry goes on sale this fall, and Toyota claims that 90 percent of its parts are new for this model year. The car wears an evolution of the 2011 car’s styling, with somewhat flatter surfaces and a restyled grille. Although its exterior dimensions have barely changed, Toyota says the new Camry has a larger, more comfortable interior than the outgoing model. The head- and taillights are new, each with a more curved design and wrapping slightly onto the adjacent body panels. Four new paint colors joint the Camry order sheet — hooray! The taillights have special air deflectors to help make the car marginally more aerodynamic.
There will three engine choices, starting with a 2.5-liter inline-four that produces 178 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and is expected to return 25/35 mpg (city/highway) — up from 22/32 mpg in 2011. The optional 3.5-liter V-6 engine is rated at 268 hp and 248 lb-ft, and is expected to receive EPA ratings of 21/30 mpg, an improvement versus ratings of 20/29 mpg last year.
The new Camry hybrid, which now mates a 2.5-liter inline-four engine to an electric motor, should receive ratings of 43/39 mpg (city/highway). The 2011 Camry hybrid was rated at 31/35 mpg. The hybrid model is now offered in both LE and XLE trim levels. It can travel up to 1.6 miles at speeds up to 25 mph on electrical power alone.
A stiffer body shell, redesigned front and rear suspension, and improved aerodynamics are all said to make the 2012 Camry better to drive. Toyota says it is more stable at speed and has better steering response than past Camrys. In addition, the changes are meant to improve the car’s ride.
The car’s interior has been made more spacious by carefully moving and reshaping interior components. Doing so has also apparently improved visibility and sightlines; rear leg- and knee room is improved over the 2011 Camry. The upgrades make the Camry’s interior quieter, thanks to improved sound-deadening materials, noise-blocking windshield glass, and even absorbent foam in the car’s roof.
Toyota promises the Camry will offer plenty of equipment, including 10 standard airbags, standard Bluetooth and USB connectivity, plus an available blind-spot detection system and Toyota’s Entune connectivity system (which can access Pandora Internet radio, the Bing search engine, and more).
Toyota will slash prices on all trims of the 2012 Camry: the LE will be $200 cheaper than in 2011, the SE $1000 cheaper, and the XLE is to be $2000 cheaper than last year. The hybrid LE will be $1150 cheaper than the current Camry hybrid, while the hybrid XLE will be $800 cheaper.
The 2012 Camry L starts at $22,715 (including a $760 destination charge), and the LE is $23,620. The Camry SE starts at $23,760 with the four-cylinder engine or $27,400 with the V-6. The top-spec XLE costs $25,485 with the four-cylinder and $30,605 with the V-6. The 2012 Camry Hybrid requires $26,660 in LE trim and $28,160 in XLE trim.
“We expect Camry will continue to earn its position as America’s best-selling car,” said Toyota group vice president Bob Carter. “It’s the smart, safety-conscious, and worry-free leader of the Toyota brand.”
Look for a big marketing push after the 2012 Camry goes on sale this October. It will also feature “prominently” in advertisements during the Super Bowl in February 2012.

Bentley played it safe with the 2011 update of its “entry-level” cash cow, the 2012 Continental GT, very subtly refining its exterior, massaging the prodigious twin-turbo W-12 engine, and shaving weight from certain components, but leaving the car’s aristocratic attitude intact. Thus the tone was set for the second-generation of variations on Conti GT theme, the rollout of which officially begins at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show with the Bentley Continental GTC ragtop.
The GTC is utterly unsurprising to behold, loyally following the coupe’s stylistic lead with its Gatling-gun headlamps and taut flanks. Ditto the decadent, four-place cabin featuring new, lighter chairs, modernized infotainment and navigation systems, and myriad leather/wood combinations. The 6.0-liter W-12 beneath its expansive bonnet produces exactly the same 567 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque as it does in the GT coupe (up from the 552 and 479 of the last GTC), its automatic transmission featuring the same six gears and quicker shifts, and the all-wheel-drive system recalibrated with the same 40/60 front/rear torque split.
And so the biggest difference between the two cars involves the GTC’s multi-layered cloth top, which folds down to let each of its four lucky occupants bathe in the sunshine as well as envious stares of the adoring public. The thickly padded roof pulls so tight over the cabin when raised that it looks like an architectural element instead of a fabric ceiling. Acoustic window glass and underbody panels are said to help optimize sound insulation—we hope that “optimization” means some sound from the monster motor will still be allowed inside. If not, then dropping the top should help.
Bentley says that the Continental GTC, with its added power and 154 fewer pounds of weight compared with the outgoing GTC, will be able to hit 60 mph in a scant 4.5 seconds (just 0.1 second behind the 2011 GT coupe) on its way to a very breezy terminal velocity of 195 mph (3 mph less than the GT).
Of course, we won’t know how the new GTC actually drives until we get some time behind the wheel, but after seeing it in the flesh during a private showing at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, we can say that it is simply gorgeous, simultaneously statelier and sportier than its lovely predecessor. Orders are being taken now, with prices starting around $215,000, and deliveries commence by the end of the year. Thanks to: Car and Driver
The Porsche 911 became an icon almost the instant it arrived nearly 50 years ago, so when it comes up for a redesign, relatively small steps have usually won the day. Bowing at the 2011 Frankfurt auto show, the seventh-generation 911 Carrera and Carrera S may look to follow that pattern at first blush, but there are some radical changes—albeit not as large as the shift from air- to water-cooled engines—underneath the largely familiar shape.
Indeed, as we’ve seen from a preponderance of spy shots, Porsche designers made sure the new 991 generation looks the part. Its iconic fender shapes, ovoid headlamps, and fast tail remain, but it looks fresher and sleeker. The nose has a more aggressive lower fascia, although the LED running lights are still located directly atop the intakes. The headlamps gain more complex innards, and the side mirrors move from the A-pillar to the door. Around back, the taillight elements are squinted and smaller, the chunky blocks around the license plate have fallen off, and the quad exhaust finishers are replaced with a more understated duo of outlets.
Sitting lower overall, the stretched wheelbase (by 3.9 inches) gives the car a lower stance, an impression furthered by the wider front track. Porsche is withholding full specifications, but we’re told the overall length is only slightly up from the 997 generation. The new body makes more use of aluminum and Porsche says it’s 100 pounds lighter. It retains the same 0.29 Cd, and now is said to have virtually no front or rear lift, thanks in part to a wider, variably extending rear spoiler.
The new cabin reflects the Porsche Carrera GT–like design that’s marked new Porsches since the Panamera, with a sloped center tunnel placing the shifter closer to the steering wheel. The execution is simpler than in the Panamera or Cayenne, though, with fewer buttons. The traditional five-pod instrument cluster keeps a large tachometer in the center, while a useful multifunction color display finds a home to the right of that. The 2+2 seating layout remains, but don’t expect those tiny back seats to offer much more room even with the extra space between the wheels.
Thanks to: Car and DriverThe third-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK-class just went on sale, and it offers a more dynamically and aesthetically satisfying experience than ever before. There’s no better way, though, to crank those attributes up than to pass the new model to the AMG werks.
Before we go any further, it’s probably necessary to say that we don’t expect the SLK55 to directly counter Porsche’s Boxster S or Spyder, but rather offer an alternative to them. While the Porsches are all about tactility, this Merc will wield a big, brutish hammer. In this case, the driving force will be a brand-new 5.5-liter V-8 that’s similar to AMG’s other 5.5-liter V-8, only this one skips the turbochargers. (The previous SLK55 used a 5.4-liter naturally aspirated V-8.)
The company announced details of this engine back in July and you can read the full details here, but the most pertinent details include its 415 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque—up from the previous model’s 355 hp and 376 lb-ft—its 7200-rpm redline, and its fuel-saving tech, which includes direct injection, auto start/stop, and cylinder deactivation. It’s bolted up to a seven-speed automatic transmission that drives the rear wheels and, as in other AMG models, uses a clutch pack in place of a traditional torque converter for sharper shifts. The combo is good for a 0-to-60-mph sprint of about 4.5 seconds (versus an SLK350’s 5.4), but they also help pile on an additional 130 pounds (again, versus the SLK350). That should put the SLK55 at just over 3500 pounds.

Finally, here's a production car that looks like the concept from which it was derived. The Volkswagen Up! (yes, it includes the exclamation point) doesn’t deviate much at all from the show car that surprised the industry four years ago—at least not visually. Like that original, this final version will debut at the Frankfurt auto show.
Although the Up! is small—at 139.4 inches long and 64.6 inches wide, it is six inches shorter and nearly two narrower than a Mini Cooper hardtop—VW calls it a “giant among small cars.” A 95.3-inch wheelbase (1.8 shorter than the Mini’s) pushes the wheels way out the corners, making for interior packaging that comfortably accommodates four passengers and nine cubic feet of cargo space. Fold the rear seats and cargo volume swells to 34 cubes.
The Up! was originally conceived to be a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive vehicle, a move that would have endeared it to enthusiasts, but the bean counters objected. So it is instead built on VW’s so-called New Small Platform, which will spawn a number of vehicles, including low-cost cars for the third world. If that doesn’t inspire confidence, we expect to see sister models from Ĺ koda and SEAT—and perhaps even Audi. The production Bulli, inspired by the famous Microbus, also will draw heavily from the NSF platform. Many components also will be shared with the Polo and other larger Volkswagens.

Vauxhall’s first foray into the premium small car market will be the Vauxhall Junior, a city car designed to compete directly with the Mini and Fiat 500. The car, which is already in its final development phase and will go on sale in early 2013, was spied during testing this week.
At just 3.7 metres long — the same as the Mini — the Vauxhall Junior will be made only as a three-door hatchback, as shown in the exclusive artist's rendering in the gallery.
The car has been in GM Europe’s cycle plan for years. It was almost killed off two years ago by GM’s then world chief Ed Whitacre, who believed at the time that global programmes should get priority. However, following extraordinary transatlantic representations earlier this year by European CEO Nick Reilly, who strongly emphasised the success of, and durable demand for, cars like the Mini and Fiat 500, the management changed its mind.
With the Mini and Fiat 500 as inspiration, the Junior’s styling is cute and appealing. It features comparatively narrow pillars, a low beltline and large, rounded headlights.
It looks less obviously like a Vauxhall/Opel family member than some current models, with its short wheelbase and unusually wide tracks giving it a squat, sporty look. It also features a convex rear window reminiscent of the original Ford Ka’s, and an arched roofline like that of an Audi A1.
The design is the work of the Vauxhall/Opel studio in Russelsheim. Although it is focused on European motorists, GM marketing chiefs believe the city hatch could sell well in Asia and Latin America.
Despite the three-door body, the Junior has practical four-person accommodation and is bigger inside than a Fiat 500.
The interior theme is stylish but flexible simplicity with an emphasis on a choice of options, colours and finishes; GM bosses have seen how well such things work for Mini and the Fiat 500.
The Junior will be offered with a range of economy-focused three-cylinder engines in both petrol and diesel forms, but sportier engines may also be in prospect; insiders say the engine bay can be made in two different sizes to accommodate bulkier powertrains. A battery-powered version is also understood to be under development and is due in 2015.
The Junior will be the premium-priced model in a three-strong GM small-car range alongside the Corsa and Agila, all of which use iterations of the firm’s latest small-car platform designed in Korea.
However, in production the car will not be called Junior, a tag coined for a 1983 GM concept. GM bosses say the real name has already been chosen, and may decide to reveal it at the Frankfurt motor show next month to begin the build-up to the car’s launch.

The Problem: Porsche is recalling some 2011 and 2012 911s, as well as all 2012 Boxsters and Caymans because of an improper fitting in the seat belt anchor. The mounting hole in the body where the seat belt is anchored is too small, which means that the seat belt cannot rotate about the bolt. Because this rotation is what allows passengers to properly adjust their lap belts, it may be more difficult for them to properly adjust their seat belts. In the event of a crash, the belt may not be properly positioned or the bolt may come loose.
The Fix: Porsche will inspect the anchor plate then replace part or all of the seat belt if it’s necessary, all free of charge. Porsche will contact owners of these cars to notify them of the recall.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 235 cars. The affected models are the 2011 911 Speedster and GT3 RS 4.0; all 2012 Boxster and Cayman models (including R, S, and Spyder variants); and the 2012 911, which is limited to the Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera GTS, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Carrera 4 GTS, Targa 4, Targa 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S.

The Hyundai Genesis sedan just received a facelift for 2012, which freshened up the model for the remainder of its cycle. Now, the Genesis Coupe is going under the knife, as these shots from our spy photographer show. Although many of the important changes are covered up, we get some idea of where the revisions will take place.
Audi-esque LED light pipes underline the headlights, similar to the ones seen on the 2012 Genesis sedan. The camo makes it hard to tell if the headlights themselves will feature the same shape, but if the Genesis sedan is any indication, you can expect most of the changes to occur inside the housings. The grille is almost completely obscured by camo, with what could be a chrome dummy grille in place to throw us off the scent. If that is the grille, then it’s substantially wider than the one found on the current model.
Moving back, we can see that the taillights sport the biggest visible changes of the rear end. Behind those lenses appear to be more LEDs, arranged in a different shape from the current model’s taillights. There appear to be no changes made to the exhaust tips or rear valance on this mule, but other minor differences could show up on the production version.
The turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 is expected to carry over, we’re hoping with the added fortification of direct-injection as in the Sonata. The 3.8-liter V-6 could be upgraded with direct-injection as it is on the new Genesis sedan, raising output from 306 hp to 333 hp. The new eight-speed automatic transmission in the Genesis sedan could also be offered for the coupe, while the six-speed manual will likely remain standard. The facelifted Genesis Coupe won’t arrive in the U.S. until the 2013 model year, but expect the model to be unveiled this coming auto show season, possibly at the Detroit show next January. Armed with these upgrades, the Genesis coupe could finally go from merely looking similar to the Infiniti G37 coupe, to competing with it head-to-head.

Kia’s Frankfurt motor show star is this dramatic rear-drive saloon. The currently unnamed model will be the first in a series of new concepts that Kia will use to explore new market segments and prove its capabilities of building style-led models above its current range of traditional hatchbacks, saloons and crossovers.
Official details of the four-door concept are scarce, but Autocar understands it be based on sister firm Hyundai’s Genesis saloon, with a powerful V8 petrol engine featuring under the bonnet.
The concept, believed to have been designed in Kia’s Frankfurt design studio, provides a striking message about Kia’s future expansion plans and will provide the blueprint for the firm’s new design direction under chief designer Peter Schreyer.
“I believe this car is a strong statement from Kia,” says Schreyer, formerly of Audi. “We are ready to fast forward to an all new chapter.”
The muscular concept, still partially hidden from some angles in these early teaser pictures, features a bold, purposeful front-end with Kia’s new familiar ‘Schreyer grille’. It gets a gently sloping roofline, heavily sculpted sides and a sleek design for the rear lights.
Schreyer believes his concept is “roaring with energy and ready for take-off” from all perspectives. The interior, which is barely visible in the pictures, is said by Kia to be “a sophisticated and elegant four-seat cockpit”.
The Korean firm insists the concept is more a statement of intent rather than a preview of a new model in a German-dominated market segment never before occupied by Kia.
The saloon concept will be followed up by a drop-top version of the Soul aimed at the US market and a small front-drive roadster, based on Cee’d mechanicals. These concepts are expected to be launched at the Detroit and Geneva 2012 motor shows respectively.
“We have made good progress recently,” Kia’s vice chairman and CEO, Hank Lee, told Autocar last month. “But it is now important for us to improve our brand power. Concepts like these will help a lot with that. But we are prepared to take our time. We will test plenty of ideas before we make any decisions about production.”
Other new Kias on display at Frankfurt will be a three-door Picanto and a facelift for the Soul.

SsangYong will unveil a new crossover concept at the Frankfurt motor show in September.
The SSangYong Concept XUV 1 is described by the Korean car manufacturer as a 'premium crossover utility vehicle'. The B-segment design will combine supermini dimensions with a high-seating position.
SsangYong issued three darkened images of Concept XUV 1 to hint at the machine's styling, but by lightening these images it is possible to see a more clearly defined shape.
SSangYong says the cabin will have an unconventional design. The seating layout will come in 1+1+2 or 1+3 forms, accessible via coach-style doors. Interior functions will all be controlled with mobile devices and smart instruments.
The Concept XUV 1 (the name is derived from ‘Excellent User Interface Vehicle 1’) will also feature a full glass roof and a wide, wraparound windscreen.
No performance details are available. SsangYong will relaunch its brand in the UK next month with the Kia Sportage-sized Korando crossover.

Cadillac's long-planned electric luxury coupe will reach production as the Cadillac ELR.
The new model will be based on the Cadillac Converj Concept, which GM chiefs promised to turn into a production vehicle when it was first displayed two years ago. The change of name to ELR brings the car in line with Cadillac's traditional naming system for its production models.
The Cadillac ELR, based around the Chevrolet Volt, will feature an electric-propulsion system made up of a T-shaped lithium ion battery, an electric drive unit, and a four-cylinder engine generator. It uses electricity as its primary source, and switches to extended-range mode when the battery is low. The ELR is expected to deliver 273lb ft of torque and a 100mph top speed.
Don Butler, vice president of Cadillac Marketing, said: “Like other milestone Cadillac models of the past, the ELR will offer something not otherwise present – the combination of electric propulsion with striking design and the fun of luxury coupĂ© driving.”
Details of performance, price and when the car will go on sale are not known at this early stage of development, but at last year's Detroit show GM top brass predicted a production date in 2013 or 2014.
