This is the car MG hopes will have the Ford Focus quaking in its boots! Sketches leaked onto a Chinese website have revealed the forthcoming MG5 concept, set to cause a stir at this month’s Shanghai Motor Show.
As its name suggests, the MG5 will slot into the range just below its MG6 sibling. While that car is somewhere between the Ford Focus and Mondeo for size – think Skoda Octavia – the MG5 will be more of a conventional Focus rival.
On the powerplant front, the production MG5 is tipped to share its engines with the Chinese-market Roewe 350 with which it shares its platform. These will include 1.5-litre and 1.8-litre petrol units.
The MG5 has been penned by Brit Tony Williams-Kenny, and develops the design language seen on the firm’s Zero concept, which has since become the MG3 supermini. Marking the MG5 out are triangular headlamp units featuring narrow LED strips and an angular rear end comprising a sporty diffuser. Expect the production model to be significantly toned down from what you see here.
UK dealerships will take delivery of the MG5 within two years, with prices predicted to start at around £13,000. For more details click here.
