Mercedes is celebrating 60 years of it producing the iconic go-anywhere Unimog off-roader with this stunning design concept.
The Mercedes Unimog Concept is based on the current U500 model and is the work of Mercedes’ Special Trucks unit, its commercial vehicle designers and a ‘model designing partner’.
It sports “an impressive, dynamic and extremely expressive face”, according to the firm, a front-end design that will also be incorporated into Mercedes’ future commercial vehicle designs.
Mercedes added that the design “combines the past and future of the Unimog” and, as well as celebrating the Unimog’s 60 years under Mercedes, it showcases the Unimog’s ability to renew itself even after six decades and 26 product ranges.
The open-top Unimog Concept’s bodywork is painted green, while its passenger cell and trim are in silver. It gets large chrome five-spoke wheels and its large exposed coil springs are painted red.
Mercedes says the colour scheme is inspired by a poison dart frog and also pays homage to the first Unimog, which was also in green.
